THE MAKERS

Meet the team behind all our teak and conacaste wood products. The Casa de los Gigantes team of carpenters is made up of seven skilled craftsmen who have spent years learning and perfecting their art. Teo Hernandez, one of the longest-standing members of the team, tells us how he joined this adventure: “The story of how I came to do this is not what you would expect,” explains Hernandez. "In 1995, my father asked me to help build the first Casa de los Gigantes workshop, and I joined as a mason's assistant, working alongside family members. I loved the type of work they did in the workshop, and I realized that I wanted to work with wood instead of construction. Other members joined later, with stories similar to Teo's, some with little experience in carpentry, but over the years they have learned techniques and skills that allow us to create our wood products. Our workshop makes everything from small pieces such as wooden coasters to living room furniture. We are proud to have such talented collaborators, and we want to highlight their work, which is more than a craft—it is an art.
