Holiday Wreath Quilled Card - Default Title (5405490)

Send a handwritten note on this handmade Holiday Wreath Quilled Card. You can feel the skill and care it takes to make these textured, handcrafted cards with beautiful scalloped edges. The wreath is quilled paper with leaves and berries in green and red with screenprinted leaves and branches. Celebrate the holiday season by sending a note to friends and family while making a difference in the lives of the artisans who handcraft. Recycled paper is carefully wound around a quill. The coils are then glued into Christmas wreaths. It's an art that dates back hundreds of years. Today, these quilled paper designs are handcrafted by artisans working with Mai Handicrafts in Vietnam. Many of the artisans are women who can work in their homes using this traditional skill, earning sustainable incomes while caring for their children.

THE MAKERS

Mai Vietnamese Handicrafts is a nonprofit organization that provides income generation and marketing services to Vietnamese artisans. Mai Handicrafts runs several craft production projects and markets the work of numerous other craft producers. During recent years, Mai Handicrafts has established itself as the primary marketing agent for artisans from neglected families and women. It practices a model of social development in which social service cannot be separated from economic self-reliance. Mai Handicrafts sales fund various community development activities, including clean water projects, vocational training equipment purchase and teacher wage subsidies. Mai Handicrafts artisans receive social and health insurance, and can apply for scholarship funds. Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from Mai Handicrafts since 1994.
