Welcome to our global maker-to-market movement where, together with 20,000 artisans, we ignite social change. We create opportunities for individuals, families, and communities in developing countries to thrive through strong relationships, fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable practices.
The KB Crafts workshop is like an oasis in a challenged area of Delhi. The Tara Projects artisan group set up this workshop as an effort to bring hope to the community, and they've been seeing positive results. This necklace was crafted with a technique that was recently introduced to the workshop, which is now capable of using casting techniques to create jewelry such as this.
HANDCRAFTED IN INDIA
TARA Projects stands for "Trade Alternative Reform Action." Working in a 125-mile radius of Delhi, TARA is a fair trade program for community development and business. The organization enables hundreds of artisans who create some of the major handicraft lines of North India to sell their products internationally. TARA is one of the pioneering Indian organizations in the field of fair wages, non formal education programs for children and women, health and environmental awareness and further development for its member artisans. Artisan benefits from TARA include medical insurance, interest-free loans and advances, a savings program and skills training. Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from TARA since 1986.
