Woven Palm Leaf Moses Basket

Sweet, simple, and sturdy too, the Woven Palm Leaf Moses Basket was handcrafted in Bangladesh. Our fair trade partner Rishilpi trains and supports artisans in rural Bangladesh who weave these baskets by hand in their homes.

HANDCRAFTED IN BANGLADESH

  • Palm leaf basket with leather handles and recycled cotton sari fabric removable mat
  • For safety reasons, never carry your infant inside of a Moses basket. Keep handles from folding into the basket by bending leather down and outside of the basket. Basket can be used until your baby can push up or roll over unassisted. Warning: Loose bedding can present a hazard. Please follow safe bedding practices as recommended by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
  • 28"L x 16"W x 12"H
  • Interior cushion can be separated from recycled cotton sari fabric mat for washing. Gentle cycle with like colors in warm water. Line dry. Warm iron
  • Assorted colors and patterns; each is unique.
  • Handcrafted in Bangladesh

THE MAKERS

Rishilpi, a nonprofit, nongovernmental development organization in southwest Bangladesh, was founded to improve the lives of people of the Rishi caste. "Rishilpi" is formed from two Bengali words, "Rishi," denoting the caste, and "shilpi," meaning artist or craftsman. Rishi, traditionally leather workers, for centuries have lived at the margins of Bengali society. Generally landless, with no easy access to schools, many struggled in a continual search for work to survive. In addition to income generation, Rishilpi conducts relief and development work in rural Bangladesh communities. Benefits to artisans include education sponsorship, health care, microcredit savings programs and early marriage prevention support for their adolescent daughters. Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from Rishilpi Handicrafts Limited since 1983.
