Welcome to our global maker-to-market movement where, together with 20,000 artisans, we ignite social change. We create opportunities for individuals, families, and communities in developing countries to thrive through strong relationships, fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable practices.
"Have a cookie and be merry!" This hungry giraffe is doing his best, right down to his holiday headgear. Decorated with silk paper and embroidered accents, this delightful handmade paper greeting card was created by women artisans working with our fair trade partner Prokritee, meaning "nature" in Bangla. Located mainly in rural areas across Bangladesh, small workshops offer safe working conditions and source locally available materials, so that families can stay together in their home villages, rather than migrating to urban areas in search of jobs.

THE MAKERS
Prokritee (meaning "nature" in Bengali) manages several handicraft enterprises and helps other groups sell their products in local and foreign markets. Prokritee and its enterprises provide jobs for poor rural women. By providing jobs for women, Prokritee improves women’s standard of living and helps them send their children to school. The organization provides skills development training to artisans. Prokritee creates and promotes income–generating projects that benefit the artisans, adhere to good safety and environmental standards, and have the potential to become self–reliant. Prokritee was established in 2001 as an independent organization. Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from Prokritee and its predecessor MCC Bangladesh since 1986.
