Welcome to our global maker-to-market movement where, together with 20,000 artisans, we ignite social change. We create opportunities for individuals, families, and communities in developing countries to thrive through strong relationships, fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable practices.
There's something quite tranquil about watching the snow fall. Especially when you can do it from the safety of your home with a big cup of tea warming your hands. This mug and tea strainer set is created in the village of Bat Trang, Vietnam, long-renowned for its pottery traditions. Here fair trade partnerships ensure that women artisans earn sustainable incomes by practicing the art of their ancestors.

THE MAKERS
Mai Vietnamese Handicrafts is a nonprofit organization that provides income generation and marketing services to Vietnamese artisans. Mai Handicrafts runs several craft production projects and markets the work of numerous other craft producers. During recent years, Mai Handicrafts has established itself as the primary marketing agent for artisans from neglected families and women. It practices a model of social development in which social service cannot be separated from economic self-reliance. Mai Handicrafts sales fund various community development activities, including clean water projects, vocational training equipment purchase and teacher wage subsidies. Mai Handicrafts artisans receive social and health insurance, and can apply for scholarship funds. Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from Mai Handicrafts since 1994.
